MY REVIEW ON A SHORT FILM LAZY SUSAN
When I watched the first seven and a half minutes of Lazy Susan, I felt a mix of feelings. I found parts of it funny because Susan is such a lazy character, but at the same time, I felt a bit sorry for her. It’s clear that she doesn’t really care about much, and that made me wonder what her life is really like. The story caught my attention from the start because Susan is not like most people you see in films. She’s very different, and that made me want to see what would happen next. The story so far is about Susan and how she goes through life doing as little as possible. The message I got is that living like that can make life sad and empty. There weren’t really any big surprises in the part I saw, but the way Susan acted kept things interesting.
The characters felt real enough for the kind of story it is. Susan, especially, came across as believable because of how the actor showed her laziness through small actions, like the way she moved or didn’t move. I think the actor played Susan well. Susan was the one character who stood out the most because everything in the film is focused on her. The way she acted with other people showed that she doesn’t really connect with them much, which matched her lazy and uncaring attitude.
Most shots are close-ups and medium shots that keep the focus on Susan and her lazy, slow life. There are no wide shots because the film wants us to see how small her world is. The camera stays still, matching how stuck Susan feels. The soft colours, natural lighting, and plain framing all help show how simple and dull her life has become.
There wasn’t much music, but I think that worked because it made the quiet moments funnier. The talking was clear, and I could hear everything without a problem. The silence in some parts added to the awkward, funny feeling of the film.
Overall, the short film was what I expected. The best part was how it showed Susan’s lazy way of living in a funny but kind of sad way. A weakness could be that the film moves slowly, so not everyone will enjoy that. It made me feel curious about Susan and what might happen to her later. I would tell people who like slow, character-based films to watch it. I think it gives a simple but strong message about how laziness can stop someone from enjoying life.
