Analysis of the film The Katy Universe 

The Katy Universe is a film I found very engaging and very entertaining. I was not hooked at first, but I began to enjoy it more and more as the story developed. The film follows the titular Katy after a friend's wedding as she wonders about her place on this earth and seems to gain supernatural abilities. It is a creative yet meaningful exploration of what it means grow up and the pressure and expectations that come along with it. As we reach the end of the film, it is revealed that Katy may actually have supernatural abilities after all.

  The characters were complex and realistic character . Mary Holland delivers a captivating performance that kept me entertained the whole time. Katy is the central character who is both hilarious and manic. She stands out as an incredibly interesting and complicated character. Her relationships with other characters are very realistic such as her strained relationship with her parents.

  The cinematography is beautiful and vibrant. A single shot of Katy, crying and standing in the middle of the dance floor, caught my eye for how simple yet powerful it is in portraying her loneliness and confusion. The use of lighting and effects typically used in Science Fiction films makes it an enjoyable watch.

  What added to the mood and atmosphere was the soundtrack. There was clear dialogue and sound effects did not drown out speech. The films score was perfect in the way it aided the storytelling.

  The film greatly exceeded my expectations. Its strengths were in the special and sound effects. They created an immersive atmosphere for the viewer. I think a weakness of the film was the abundance of monologue that could be overbearing on the audience. The film is very comedic and made me laugh a couple of times. I would definitely recommend this film to a friend since it is a fun, short yet impactful film. The Katy Universe is a film that is very existential and reminds the viewer of the complexity of life itself. After watching it I felt hopeful and inspired.


Plot summary of the film The Katy Universe 



Katy is the protagonist of the film. There is no specific human antagonist but rather, Katy's own inner conflict and turmoil serves as an antagonist. After her friend’s wedding, Katy has an existential crisis, wondering what her place in the universe is. She believes she has somehow obtained cosmic super powers before being detained and calming down.

That’s exactly how watching Don't Move made me feel. From the very first moment, this short horror film grabs your attention and doesn’t let go until the end.
