INDIVIDUAL REVIEW (BFAA28002)
NURSERY RHYMES
Nursery Rhymes” is a deeply sentimental short film that stirred powerful emotions in me. From the very beginning, I was drawn in by its emotionally charged opening scene, which set the tone for a heart-wrenching story. The film made me feel heartbroken and empathetic, especially toward the victims of the accident, and its emotional depth moved me to tears. Set in the aftermath of a tragic event, the film gently unfolds a moment of chaos where human resilience and tenderness shine through. One man's simple yet powerful act- singing nursery rhymes to a frightened child - becomes a haunting symbol of love and loss.
The central message of the film is that even in the darkest moments, the human spirit finds a way to express care, love, and resilience. The story contained several unexpected twists and emotional surprises. Initially, the man’s body language and facial expression made him appear detached or abnormal, as though he wasn’t affected by the tragedy around him. However, the real surprise came at the end when a woman encouraged him to continue singing to comfort the terrified little girl. This moment revealed his quiet strength and emotional depth, adding a powerful twist to his character arc.
The film’s cinematography effectively conveyed emotion and movement. A tracking shot was used to capture the rescue of the man from the overturned car, adding a sense of urgency and involvement. Panning and tilting followed a woman making a phone call, with the shot moving from her toes to her head, emphasizing her body language and emotional state. A close-up of the woman holding her daughter highlighted her fear and vulnerability, drawing the audience into her emotional experience.
Sound and music were used thoughtfully throughout the film. The sound effects deepened the emotional tone and helped viewers feel immersed in the tragedy. The use of nursery rhymes as part of the soundtrack was particularly impactful, as it contrasted innocence with trauma and added a haunting quality to the film. The combination of visuals and sound left a lasting impression, reinforcing the emotional weight of the story.
